The West Harlem Art Fund is presenting a group exhibition in Governors Island. In this, we can find the work of nine artists, where they try to connect their work with their personal experiences. Each of these has different origins which makes it more interested and appealing for the human eye. In the first room, called the ?the ceramics room? we can find the works of Peter Goldwater. He is a professor of the BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center. It is admirable to see the unique form of his works and is more incredible to imagine how he use his hands to create such art. In the second room we find the work of one of the Garcia?s sister. In particular, the work of Scheherazade is one of my favorites. She developed a paper installation using original photographs of Governors Island in the 1800. She is trying to show her personal experience by showing what it is to live on an island; you can stand in the middle of the room and rotate and be surrounded by water. She is native of the Dominican Republic. In the next room denominated ?the sculpture room? we can find different sculptures, which have a unique way. Some of these sculptures are the work of Colin Chase. He doesn?t explain the meaning of his work. He wants people to imagine and think his own interpretations about his works. The next room belongs to Dianne Smith. An artist known for trying to expose the feelings of the people to the limit. At first I did not understand this expression, but seeing his work I understand the why of this description. In this exhibition we can find different stools. At first people is not sure whether or not to sit in these, and you think you are going to fall. Seeing that nothing happens, you feel comfortable again, but at first there is doubt. This is the aim of the artist to put our feelings to the limit. Upstairs we can find four rooms. The first belongs to Iliana Garcia, where you can see different pictures of the beach with figures. The most important object of this room and that becomes the main image of the exhibition is the green chair. This chair can mean different things, plus it is a favorite of all children who visit us. In my very personal point of view, I feel that this chair is to express what is the life of each one of us, and doing different things as we go along and we are planting things, which in the future harvest, and the chair is the same as it is as if they were growing twigs. In the next room you will find different objects that speak of the earth, these were designed by architect Kurt Goodrich. In the next room we found differents paper sculptures, by Dianne Smith. For me, at first it was hard to know what it means but it looks like a forest. The last room but not least we find the excellent work of Wayne Liu. In this room we can see the complete room destroyed, the TV on the floor, pictures and parts of the house in the floor, which gives us the feeling like we’re living in a place that has just shaken by an earthquake or tsunami. This is an extraordinary work that give us goosebumps. Wayne Liu is from China, he made this by telling us his personal experiences. This exhibition is not only interesting for art we can find the extra is that this house was a military home. In this, militaries used to live with their entire familias many years ago. The house is in good condition and we can appreciate how beautiful it is and how big, and art that accompanies which makes it more spectacular. osely Coupled: Group Exhibition on Governors Island The West Harlem Art Fund is presenting a group exhibition in Governors Island.
